I have gotten some email traffic in the last few days and the business aviation community is finally engaging us in the fight to save the industry from ill-informed legislators using inaccurate sound bites to achieve short-term political goals. This is from Ed Martinkus: Did you ever ask yourself; “What can I do - I am just one person?” Now is the time to act as a group! Please go to NBAA’s Website and click Contact Congress on the right side of the page. Then pick a pre-written letter to your Congressman. Complete your contact information and send it. After you send one letter, your information are saved, then you can go back and send another letter with just a few clicks. This is very important that our voices are heard, do it NOW! Now that you are done pass the word on. Thank you This is from Marc McCune: Re. below. Distribute to everyone concerned. I don't send many emails like this, but this is important and easy to do. Statements in quotation marks were added by me, you can add your own. All you have to do is cut and paste the information to the following website. To find your representative in the House of Representatives, Click Here If you choose to communicate your concerns directly, here is some information (which is taken from the NBAA and GAMA Web sites) that could be considered: Recently business aviation has been getting negative press and much of it is initiated from our representatives in government.
If American business aviation is diminished it will give foreign competitors an advantage.
Name another vehicle in which you could send a team of company executives to multiple city pairs in a single day, all while maintaining productivity en-route.
Consider the following: Nearly 70 percent of general aviation flying hours are for business reasons. Most business aircraft are used to boost efficiency and productivity. Any proposal in Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) legislation that includes a provision for the divestiture of business aircraft will harm our industry. Banning the use of business airplanes for any company would have an negative impact on our industry and jeopardize high-paying manufacturing and other jobs. Targeting an industry is a counterproductive response to our nation's economic situation. Congress should not be taking action to weaken an important domestic manufacturing industry. General aviation contributes more than $150 billion to the U.S. economy annually and employs more than 1,265,000 people. General aviation is one of the few industries still contributing to the nation's positive balance of trade -- with almost $12 billion in exports (38 percent of sales) in 2007. General aviation is an important part of the country's transportation system. More than 5,000 communities rely on general aviation for their air transportation needs -- compared to the 500 communities served by scheduled airlines. 2009-02-14 14:56:08 | 0 comments
